You may have heard of our new Beer Soda, Shred, and wondered: “What the heck is beer soda?” Maybe you even cracked a can, took a sip, and asked yourself: “How did they do that?”
A modern take on the classic Radler, Shred is a beer with super refreshing soda-like carbonation and a bright hit of sweet-citrus flavor. How do we make it? Rest assured, there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation that doesn’t include pouring a can of pop into the brew kettle. Read on, Shredheads.
What is Shred Beer Soda?
Shred is a beer, full stop. Though it is inspired by the classic Radler, we don’t add any soda or juice to the brew. Instead, Shred’s uniquely refreshing soda-like drinking experience comes from its special yeast. Science!
Thanks to some serious brewhouse tinkering by our Innovation team, we found that when this yeast combines with the right sugar, we can create a beer that pops with soda-like carbonation and a brighter, sweeter flavor than traditional beer. Add a dash of citrus and BOOM—you’ve got Shred.
And with our variety pack, you’ve got a whole line of beer sodas, each shredded with flavor: lemon, orange, grapefruit, and lime ginger. That’s a lotta flavor!
So wait, there’s no soda in the beer?
Nope, no soda. The name comes from the soda-like drinking experience that’s quite different from a traditional beer. Like most beers, Shred contains just water, malt, hops, and yeast, plus a dash of citrus. However, that special yeast is no ordinary strain. One sip and you’ll immediately notice the different flavor and drinking experience. We won’t blame you if you’re tempted to pour it over ice.
